History of Friendship Day
This special day was originally established in 1919 by Hallmark Card Company as a day to celebrate friendship by sending cards to each other. Interest in the event fizzled out over the years. It was revived by Winnie the Pooh who was named the World's Ambassador of Friendship at the United Nations. There are other groups that commemorate friendship on other dates.
