In this shabby chic patch throw that measures approximately 45 by 60 inches pieces are serged together in a decorative way, the whole throw is finished with ribbed knit border. It has a very sophisticated look and will look great as a wall decoration or as a throw. Mainly cotton, but also some wool, acrylic and synthetics. Faces and basset hound patches are just a few of the things to look for. Will make a great gift! Nellie describes her process- Because I do cut and sew knitwear, experiment a lot with yarns and colors, and a lot can go wrong while picture kntting, I end up with a lot of beautiful pieces of knit.

Background:
Being born and raised in the Netherlands, it was easy to pick up knitting since it was taught in first grade, to both girls and boys. I studied art, crafts and education and have a Bachelor's of Fine Arts and Education through the University of Amsterdam. My travels brought me to Philadelphia, where I also work at the Philadelphia Zoo.

Artist Statement:
"I produce limited edition and one of a kind knitwear, inspired by animals, people and nature. I use mainly cotton and mill ends which are softer and fluffier and use recycled cottons as well. Recycled cotton is a recovered cotton, that would be wasted during the spinning, weaving and cutting process in the garment industry. My focus lately has been depicting all sorts of dogs, but other animals will be added and I'm always open to requests. "

Technique:
After designing the picture pattern, I knit the fabric on a flat bed knitter using up to four colors. The fabric gets cut and sewn, the edges serged, hemmed and hand finished. A lot of attention is paid to the details. Sometimes I incorporate fabric or stitch over top to ad an extra color. Most items are cold washable.
