Background:
Ileana Munteanu was born in the Transylvanian City of Alba-Iulia, Romania. She studied French at the University of Cluj and consumed as much art history and classical training as she could, earning her MA in literature with a thesis on Stendhal. She taught French literature and French as a second language in Bucharest, Romania and later in Washington DC, pursuing meanwhile her artistic inclinations.In 1995 she started to show her own line of jewelry in Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia and New York. She lives in a building overlooking Verazzano Bridge, in New York. Her studio has a important role in her life: the meticulous process of creating colorful and unique pieces of jewelry takes place every day, so every day becomes a joyful day.Ileana is represented by several galleries throughout the United States. Artist Statement:
"My designs have resulted from my aspiration to bring more beauty to everyday life, to inspire good feelings, to increase self-awareness and to share my own creative joy. The mystery of my art consists in the loving effort invested in each piece. I believe in artists' freedom to express themselves trough form and color. The lasting symbols - love, faith, sincerity, purity, hope, renewal, good luck, - are always present in my work. My preference for stones and beads brough about a unique style of jewelry, perfected by using a meticulous technique of assemblage. Nature is a source of inspiration and my creativity allows materials to express their own beauty. "

Technique:
I like to use semiprecious stones, genuine pearls, shells and lots of tiny beads in my pieces. I am trying to achieve a natural, shaded look, by incorporating several nuances of beads for each color I choose. I like to use gemstones for their enchanting features. All of the pieces exhibited inclucing brooches, earrings, small boxes and pendant are bead appliques on wood or other materials, using an original technique, the oblique stitch combined in some cases with bead lace.
