• Eucalyptus: This piquant, pale green soap combines the soothing scent of eucalyptus with just a hint of lavender and peppermint. A wide variety of emollient oils complete the invigorating formula. Contains: coconut oil, palm oil, apricot kernel oil, avocado oil, jojoba oil, wheat germ oil, lanolin, essential oils of eucalyptus, lavender, peppermint and rosemary and natural green pigment. (Note: lanolin can trigger skin irritation in certain individuals.)
• Herb Garden Scrub: Use this to gently scrub while celebrating the fragrant herbs of the garden – rosemary, sage, lavender and coriander. To further soothe hard-working hands, it contains shea butter and cocoa butter. This handcrafted soap contains coconut oil, palm oil, avocado oil, castor oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, essential oils of rosemary, sage, lavandin and coriander, sea weed, wheat germ (for exfoliation), aloe vera juice, and chlorophyll (for color).
• Lavender Rosewood: Tomboy’s first-ever soap recipe – and still our most popular. Features the classic scent of lavender with a hint of rosewood. Contains: olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil, essential oils of lavender and rosewood and ground lavender buds.
• Lemon Geranium: A lively, lemony treat with a hint of geranium, and lots of shea butter, cocoa butter and avocado oil for richness. This handcrafted soap contains olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil, avocado oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, essential oils of lemon, geranium, lemongrass, and melissa, ground chamomile and annato powder.
• Lime Grapefruit: Refreshing and emollient, this gently cleaning soap is a tribute to the uplifting powers of grapefruit. Contains coconut oil, palm oil, apricot kernel oil, castor oil; essential oils of grapefruit, lime and bergamot and yellow oxide pigment.
• Moonflower: A sweetly scented, perfectly pale blue soap, great for anyone who loves the smell of scented geraniums. Contains: Coconut oil, palm oil, apricot kernel oil, castor oil, essential oils of geranium, rosewood, lavender and palma rosa, and ultra marine blue pigment.
• Oatmeal Spice: Tomboy’s most exfoliating bar with lots of spices and nourishing oatmeal. The combination of rosemary, sage, clove and cinnamon make this a popular scent for men. This handcrafted soap contains olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil, castor oil, essential oils of rosemary, sage, clove and cassia, ground oatmeal, cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg.
• Peppermint Poppy: Lanolin and cocoa butter are featured in this delightful soap, dotted with ground poppy seeds and marked by the refreshing scent of peppermint. Contains: olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil, castor oil, lanolin, cocoa butter, peppermint essential oil and ground poppy seeds. (Note: lanolin can trigger skin irritation in certain individuals.)
• Southwest Citrus: The most intense of Tomboy’s citrus soaps, this is a lively scented bar with a beeswax twist, sprinkled with calendula petals. This recipe contains olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil, beeswax, essential oils of tangerine, lemongrass, bergamot and lime, and calendula petals.
• Tangeline: A mildly exfoliating bar featuring fine red desert sand, sweetened with tangerine and lavender and enhanced by jojoba and wheat germ oil. | Jessica Newens | | | | | Tomboy Soap Co. | | Background: | Tomboy founder - and sole employee - Jessica Newens decided to create a cottage business so she could afford to live in the San Juan Mountains. Life in the rugged mountains of southwestern Colorado comes with its challenges, but Jessica finds them easier to face down as her slow-motion development of a carefully crafted company takes hold. Jessica was taken by the idea of making and selling soap in 1995. Not only did she find soap an appealing medium for beautifully subtle colors and textures, but creating bars of soap allowed her to incorporate her growing passion for herbs into a utilitarian product.
Soon Jessica was experimenting with making cold-processed hand-crafted soaps. Jessica mastered her soapmaking skills, testing the results on family and friends, and began developing the original recipes that now make up Tomboy's permanent product line. Everything is hand-crafted, and begins with an intuition and ends with careful product testing.
Tomboy Soap Co. today is housed in a down-at-its-heels historic loft building in Norwood, forty-five minutes away from the booming resort town of Telluride.Tomboy Soap Co. is still a one-woman show, with Jessica doing everything from hauling upstairs 50-pound sacks of lye to creating and packaging the products to designing and printing the labels. Jessica earned a degree in English from Lewis and Clark College in 1992 and then moved to Telluride that same year. Named after Tomboy, the once-thriving turn-of-the-century company-mining town that today is a ghost town, hovering more than 1,000 feet above Telluride, Tomboy Soaps got their start in Telluride, Colorado, where dry skin is a way of life.No wonder Tomboy creator Jessica Newens, a lifelong resident of Colorado, has trained herself in the art of hand-crafting soaps that go beyond cleanliness to deliver soothing scents and sensations, and work to moisturize rather than dehydrate your skin.
Hand-crafted from a potpourri of meticulously measured combinations of pure essential oils, vegetable oils, herbs and spices, each bar of Tomboy soap is cold-processed so as to preserve precious nutrients. Individual soap's characteristics range from super-sudsy to gently exfoliating to lushly emollient to odor-lifting, their complex combinations belied by names that are simplicity itself – Sweet Bee, Herb Garden Scrub, Lime Grapefruit, Lavender Rosewood, Oatmeal Spice.
Recently Tomboy added a line of handcrafted, natural body products also made, once again, from carefully collected essential oils and herbs.
