Color Field Painting

A style of painting prominent from the 1950s through the 1970s, featuring large āœfieldsā or areas of color, meant to evoke an aesthetic or emotional response through the color alone.  The movement grew out of Abstract Expressionism, in which large stained or painted areas or "fields of color evoke aesthetic and emotional responses.
