| | | About the Artist | | Amber Zehnder | | | | | Amber Zehnder Handcrafted Jewelry | | Background: | | I have been creating jewelry for over 15 years.I started out making jewelry with paper beads, copper wire, plastics, wood, and pretty much anything else I could get my hands on. I must admit, some of my early works were not the prettiest.Over the years, I noticed that jewelry is the one area that has held my interest. As I gained experience, I continued to improve my skills and my pieces. Finally, it was time to change this hobby into my work. I believe you should do what makes you happy in life, and for me, that is jewelry. My designs are constantly growing and changing. I have taken classes in glass fusing and lampworking and have fallen in love with glass. I’ve also broadened my work with metal since I love the outcome of glass and metal combined. I have been working with wire pretty much since I began making jewelry and am now a master wire sculptor. | | | | Artist Statement: | | "I enjoy having fun in life, which I express in my jewelry designs. I love the bright colors found in my surroundings, in the flowers, trees and animals. I enjoy the beauty of nature, and find ways to bring this inspiration to life in my work." | | See more of their works: Amber Zehnder | | | | Technique: | | I fuse glass and dichroic in a kiln, firing each load for up to 5 hours, to temperatures around 1500 degrees. I create pendants entirely of glass, and also glass cabochons which I wrap with wire to create custom settings. I also do glass lampworking, melting a rod of glass in a flame and wrapping the molten glass around a metal rod to create beautiful beads, which I incorporate into my work. I love natural gemstones. I combine stones with wire, wrapping and stringing them to make unique creations. |
