Tim Bell is fascinated with wood of all kinds. He creates One-of-a-kind Wood Turned Art. Most of his unique pieces serve as functional art such as vessels, vases and bowls. According to Tim, woodturning provides an outlet for both destructive and creative pursuits. He has an eye for seeing a piece of art in what others see as "just a hunk of wood". He compares watching a design form from a chunk of wood to the metamorphous found in nature when a caterpillar leaves the cocoon as a beautiful butterfly.

In 1989 Tim entered the art arena when he started making custom gilded frames for Fine Art. During this time he became friends with some of the very best flat art artists in the country who took him under their wing and taught him what it takes to create true art… the difference between an average piece and a great piece.

He started turning wood in 1998. To master his trade he attended and participated in art shows where he met and studied under internationally known wood turners and masters. Tim enjoys the wonderful colors, grains and patterns natural to the wood. Some of the woods he turns into his works of art include Big Leaf Maple Burl, Canarywood and Ambrosia Maple. He sees wood and wood turning as viable as any other art medium and tries to communicate his creativity in his work. He derives great pleasure in the creativity it takes to transform a piece of wood into a functional work of art enjoyed by others.

	“I am fascinated with wood of all kinds. Woodturning provides an almost instant gratification of both the destructive and creative qualities most humans possess. I have an eye for seeing a piece of art in what others see as "just a hunk of wood". I was fortunate enough to participate in a few shows with some internationally known wood turners. They were very generous with their time and skills, showing me how to translate my work from 2-D to 3-D and the "little" things that make all the difference in the finished piece. I am now taking all of the "little" things that the artists have taught me and am letting it all flow into my work. Even when I have a specific shape laid out, I keep an open mind and eye while turning to interpret what the wood is saying to me. Watching a vase or vessel coming out of a chunk of wood almost by itself…when everything is flowing, it is like you’re helping it out of its cocoon.”
